A worked example, not a market price
Illustration only: two adults, seven days, six hotel nights, one room. All figures below are invented planning inputs in US dollars. They are not a recommended spending level, current quote or forecast. The hypothetical lodging total includes tax and mandatory fees already.
| Category | Assumption | Subtotal |
|---|---|---|
| Lodging | 6 nights × US$300 all-in | US$1,800 |
| Meals | 2 adults × 7 days × US$60 | US$840 |
| Local transport | Whole-trip allowance, all transport included | US$350 |
| Activities | Group allowance | US$250 |
| Subtotal | Before contingency | US$3,240 |
| Contingency | 10% of subtotal | US$324 |
| Total | Excludes flights and insurance | US$3,564 |
That is US$1,782 per adult when shared equally. Replace every allowance with your own plan. Seven nights would add another night of lodging and may change other categories.
Keep the units straight
- Rooms and rental cars: usually shared by the group; check vehicle and room capacity.
- Meals, admissions and tours: count every traveler and applicable age category.
- Parking: count actual parking days or nights, rather than assuming the full stay.
- Flights, insurance, shopping and currency conversion: add outside the land example.
Avoid double counting: if a tour includes transfers or a meal, remove that item from the separate allowance. If a hotel quote includes tax and a daily fee, do not add the fee and tax again.
Replace the biggest guesses first
Use the hotel-cost calculator for lodging, then the car-days calculator to test rental duration. The hotel tool’s default tax estimate is editable; Halekulani’s published tax breakdown provides a current hotel example, not a guarantee of every invoice’s treatment. Use your booking total when available.
Reserve a realistic activity allowance before spending the remaining money on a higher room category. The reservation planner helps you see which visits have booking deadlines; it does not promise ticket availability.
Before you book
Does the example include flights?
No. Add your own airfare, baggage, insurance and any currency conversion costs.
Should I use six or seven hotel nights?
Use your booked check-in and check-out dates. A seven-day trip can have different night counts depending on flight times.
